  4. matters. It is this sort of assumption that has 
  5. tended to divert attention away from the forms 
  6. and parameters of the media themselves. The 
  7. sensory modalities of the media as such have not 
  8. been studied. The very idea of ‚Äúcontent‚Äù which 
  9. obsesses us, on the other hand is unknown to 
  10. nonliterate societies. Our western divisions 
  11. between form and content occur with literacy and 
  12. because of literacy. Literacy is itself a work of
